This 6 hectare park lies within the Nakusp range of the Selkirk Mountains within the central Kootenay region of BC. Park visitors enjoy canoeing or kayaking, fishing for rainbow and cutthroat trout or swimming in the lake's clear, refreshing mountain water. Mountain goats can often be viewed on rocky outcroppings and in late summer, thousands of western toads emerge from the lake and migrate to the nearby forest to hibernate for the winter. A variety of ecosystems associated with wetlands and riparian areas are abundant immediately adjacent to the park which offers opportunity to view birds.
CampFinder checks BC Parks every 30 minutes, around the clock, and emails you when a booked-up night opens back up. That catches most cancellations, which sit open for hours; at the few campgrounds that refill in seconds it can miss the race. Set up a free availability alert for Summit Lake Provincial Park.
